paint comparisons

Hello everyone, my question is the paint you buy at the local hobby store is it more or less the same as the paint you buy at the paint store talking about spray can paint.  If I buy for example silver at the paint store is it the same as what you would get at the hobby shop.thanks.

No. The differences range from minor to catastrophic. Some general purpose rattle can paint will be fine on a kit, some will not. Two of the major differences are pigment size and coating thickness. Another is that some of the solvents in the general purpose aerosols are highly aggressive to styrene.

Some, however, have their uses, like one of the Krylon black enamels which is a wonderful primer for Alclad. But the economy is likely to be false for others, as you have to buy the can and then test it on scrap. If it doesn't work, you're SOL and SO$.
