question about an old airbrush
Posted by camo junkie on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 7:18 AM

hi guys. i bought a vl duel action a.b. about 10 years ago. at the time i didnt know anything about it and only used it once. im currently in the market to purchse a more worthwhile and better one. that said, i have a question about the vl, i just recently brought it out from the dusty graveyard and tried using it again. can someone tell my why when i push down on the trigger i get paint?? isnt it supposed to be just air?? is there a way i can fix it until i get my new a.b.?? i only used this thing once in 10 years and would like to use it as a basice "extra" but what's the point if it doesnt work? not sure and any and all help would be appreciated. thanks in advance as always guys!! Smile [:)]

It sounds like the needle isn't fully seated.

  • Unscrew the handle and loosen the lock nut on the needle retainer.
  • Pull the needle back slightly and then gently, but firmly press the end of the needle inwards until it goes no further.
  • retighten the lock nut
  • replace the handle
  • test

If the paint continues to flow despite doing the above, if you have a "deluxe" kit with multiple needle/nozzle sizes, check that the needle and nozzle sizes you have installed match.

Is the needle stuck back all the time?

Is the needle chuck tight on a needle which is seated in the nozzle?
