Thanks guys.  I guess I'll pull out the airbrush, but its a pain to set up and clean.  After summer school is over I'll have an airbrush day with her.  Thank you for all your help.

i say there is nothing wrong with testor's paint. you may not have thinned them too much but it depends on what kind of solvent you used to thin them with. it just might be too strong and is why its bringing up the other paint. secondly you may not have let it dry long enough. since your brush painting, it may need upwards of 24 hours to dry between coats. if you thin your paints, use just 1 drop (depending on the amount used) of thinner in it. i prefer mineral spirits for thinner but to each their own...just becareful of how "strong" it is. i hope that helps you and like mg (who knows his stuff) if you need more info...just ask! I'm a brush-painter first and foremost, and let me just say Testors enamel is not a paint one should brush with. It's good for small pieces and drybrushing, but over large surfaces enamel paints are hard to get nice and smooth. If you can find the color you want in acrylic, go with acrylic. They spread evenly, brushstrokes are rare, and are just as durable as enamel. But if you really must use an enamel, try a rattle can or add some paint conditoner to the Testors enamel paint. Hope this helps, any questions just ask.Smile [:)]

Am I understanding correctly that you are brush painting these? If so, in short, you will never be happy with the result no matter what you do.

Strip the cars.

Reprime, let dry 24 hours. SPRAY top coat. Use a light coat, multiple coats if needed, drying between coats.

Ok so I've never used Testors paint before.  I use Tamiya and Citadel.  I'm painting a couple of cars with my girlfriend though and the colors were just better.  I primed both in black and then when I realized how dark it was making the colors I put down a coat of siver on both cars.  I painted mine in plum crazy purple and she did hers in red metal flake.  I have several problems.  The purple seems very uneven at times and kind of think and not leaving a nice coat.  The guy at the store said Testors doens't need to be thineed to hand paint it.  Any ideas?  Now, on my GF's car I did thin her red, thinking it would help.  It wasn't watery or anything but as she was painting I noticed an issue... It was taking up the silver paint and leaving the black showing.  I told her to switch to out of the bottle and figured I had thinned it too much, but the unthinned took up some of the silver too.  What gives?  Anybody have some advice for me?
