Model Master Enamel paint job
Posted by Blackbelt2 on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 9:34 AM
I need your expertise! I am currently building a 1/72 scale C-130 Hercules in Blue Angel colors. I have Model Master enamels in Blue Angel Blue and Yellow. Should I use a primer coat before I put on the two tone blue and white scheme and if so what do you suggest? I sometimes use Testors primer white or is there a better primer out there to use. I am not using an air brush and I have had much success with the spray cans however gloss white is a tough color. I guess I should splurge on an air brush especially for this project. Also, I cannot find the Blue Angel yellow in a spray can so I may have to buy an airbrush since I don't want to hand brush the yellow stripe.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, always use a primer before top coats as this helps the top coats stick to the object you are painting as well as showing any fault or flaws in the plastic or your build thus saving you a whole heap of swearing when you notice something wrong in the underlying plastic. White is the best primer if you are going to spray yellow as it helps with the opaqueness( easyly seen through) of yellow. Have you tried getting the blue Angels yellow in the Tamiya spray cans?

Airbrushing is the way to go but will require serious thought as to type(single or double action), compressor and accessories ie; water trap. It will be a big dollar purchase so I recommend careful choice. CHeers

Thanks for your reply. I have been looking around for the Blue Angels Yellow in a spray can but so far have only found the bottles. If there is anyone out there that may know where to look I would greatly appreciate it. I have tried Squadron models and Mega hobby with no success.

Thanks for the advice! I figured that the yellow stripe will be my toughest challenge. I will probably be spending a lot of time masking and taping.
