Cooker/stove hood for s/booth
Posted by Chainmail on Friday, September 4, 2009 8:08 AM

I have read here that some people use cooker/stove extractoe hoods in home made booths.I would like to know if this is ok and are the hoods up to the job. Also is there a least power/sucking i need.

I need to make one so it will suit the space i have.I will need to get a smallish hood BUT i want to make sure it will do the job.I suppose i am thinking of a booth about 24inx12-18inx18-24in.

As long as the CFM is sufficient to move vapors and particles from the area...but given the price of some of those range hoods, why not invest in a Pace Paint Booth?

I use a kitchen hood in my (acrylic only) spray booth, and it works okay, but not great. Most inexpensive kitchen hoods don't have the CFM required to remove paint fumes and overspray, and often have unshielded motors which could be a fire hazard. And not just any fire hazard, but an explosive one! Mind you, I've never had any problem in the 3 yrs I've been using it.

So, even though I use one myself, I no longer recommend them for use as spraybooths. Besides, they vent wrong for spray booths. Downdraft or backdraft is superior for painting. You can buy kitchen hoods that do that, but they're more expensive than the Pace Gerald mentions.

If it's all you have to use, use it and use it proudly, but if you are going to invest money, consider saving up a bit more and get the Pace.

So long folks!
