Flat coat over Alclad
Posted by RadMax8 on Saturday, September 12, 2009 4:14 PM
Hey guys I've got a pretty complex scheme with camoflauge and natural metal, plus decals. I was wondering if putting a flat coat over the Alclad will ruin its metal-look. Thanks!

Max, I don't think it will ruin it. I mean, it will still look like metal. I would just give it test shot on some scrap plastic and see what happens. Give it a try and let us know how it goes. I would have just said that you don't need any sort coat at all over Alclad but I see you are doing camo also and you probably want to flatten that part out. Hope it works out for you.

Regards,

Jeff

You answered your own question...anytime you put a clear of any kind over a color or NMF it will change the sheen. Since you're mixing NMF with Camo why not consider using....well SnJ Spray Metal? The two are more compatable...booth being enamels.

Thanks for the answers, guys. I don't know why I thought this paint scheme would be fun lol. I'll have to think of some creative masking. *SIGH* Oh well every modeler loves a good challenge right?
