The H-1 tip is .45mm which should handle enamels well.  The HC-3 tip is .63mm and the HC-5 is 1.07mm.

The best thing to do is as stated in previous post is to experiment with the different tips and air pressures.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto]  What he said.  I've gone to the finer tip after starting out with the larger.

This airbrush should last you quite a while.  I've been using my H1 regularly for almost 35 years, and it still performs like it did when I first took it out of the box.

Get yourself an empty milk jug and spray away! Practice getting smooth coverage, then practice with spraying finer lines. It's a lot more confidence-inspiring than taking an untried tool to a nice model.

I would use the medium sized H-3 tip for starters.

I've had a Paasche H for several years with nary a hiccup. They're great workhorses.

Thanks for the help guys. I do need to slow down and do some experimentation, etc.

I've always used the larger needle and tip sizes based on the area to be covered and the paint being used. When I did T-Shirts I needed both a size that handled the thicker paints as well as flow sufficient amounts to get the desired coverage.

Experimentation on something such as a piece of paper or test model will help you discover what each needle and tip combination will deliver. Practice pactice and more practice so you are fully vested in the capacity of your airbrush!

I too was one of those guys in a big rush to take my new airbrush and use it on a model without first learning what it could do and what I couldn't yet do with it. An otherwise good model, shot because of being in too big of a hurry to spray paint without the knowledge or skillsets to do so.

For enamels I would say the #3 would be thec best bet.

I have a new Paasche H single action airbrush. I paint mostly Testor's enamels and was wondering if the H-1 color part and HC-1 aircap would work, or do I need to go to the bigger sizes.

   Thanks,
