Future over Tamiya Acrylics question
Posted by Adlerson on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 11:29 AM

Greetings,

My first post here, love these boards! A ton of info and it seems very helpful people. :)

Anyway, on with the show..

I'm sure this has been asked before, but for the life of me, using the search here, using Google, I can't find a straight answer.

From what I've read it's fine using Future over Tamiya acrylic paints, as long as the acrylic is given enough time to dry before applying the Future coat(s). However, what I can't find is, what is a 'sufficient drying time'?

I'm in no hurry, so I would rather be safe than sorry in this area.

Thanks for any help!

To be safe, 24 to 48 hours. Acrylics dry rapidly, but attain full cure more slowly than enamels. They do not achieve full bond to the surface until completely cured. They also require a cleaner surface than enamels.

Future is an acrylic coating. It is very strong and shrinks as it cures. If the underlying paint is not well cured or was applied to a less than pristine surface, Future could cause the underlying paint to crack (called "crawling").

Be sure to apply the Future in several light coats.

Ross Martinek A little strangeness, now and then, is a good thing… Wink
