Paint Cross Reference Chart Help
Posted by kielers on Thursday, October 1, 2009 3:47 AM

I have a Trumpeter 1/350 USS Yorktown.  The paint referenced is all Gunze Mr. Color paints but I want to use the White Ensign Models Colourcoat enamels.  I've used them recently and really like how they work in my airbrush.

Where can I find a cross reference chart that matches the Gunze paints, or any other paint brands, with the WEM paints?

Thanks for your help.

Check here:

I can't open the pages myself because of the antique computer I'm on now, but the chart is very comprehensive and may tell what you want to know.

It's all about classic cars now!

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

This is just what I was looking for.  Thanks.  This chart is incredible, 224 pages of cross referenced paints.  This guy's my hero.

A look at that paint cross reference showed that it is sort of incomplete when it comes to the US Navy's paint applied to ships during WWII.    These paints had neither Fed_Std (didn't exist back then) nor ANA references.

The best means for determining the colors you wish to paint  a specific ship might be to go the shipcamouflage.com camouflage measure database.

http://www.shipcamouflage.com/usn_cv.htm

They may actually have links to measure pattern diagrams too.

From there go elsewhere on the shipcamouflage site to determine the colors associated with the measure.  Once you have those color designations (5-H, 5-O, 5-N, etc) you can go directly to the White Ensign Colourcoat page and pick out your paint.    If you are fortunate to have a local source of WEM paints,  you can still use the WEM website to locate the catalog item numbers to assist your shopping.

Failing all that,  contact John Snyder at WEM directly via email.   John is more than willing to assist modelers in the selection of proper paints for their subject
