Chrome or Polished Tin Paint: Need for Project
Posted by DeepSea on Friday, October 9, 2009 9:30 PM

Need some help with finding a realistic primer/paint for a 1/3 resin kit resembling:

Highly polished nickel plating - almost looks like Chrome - or highly polished Aluminum.

Highly polished Copper and highly polished brass (almost gold).

I don't own an airbrush but would be willing to buy one if you can recommend a type/model along with the paints.

I've tried gold leaf, bare metal foil, rustoleum, copper gutter paint and a variety of standard model paints.  Looking for professional level finish.

Thanks

Rob

How "chrome" do you want the finish?

Are we talking mirror-quality?

Check out the line of Alclad II lacquers.  They can be mixed to get differeent tints as you might need.  Definatley prime you piece first.  Mr. Surfacer 1200 would be my suggestion.  If you use chrome or polished aluminum, after priming, the Alclad needs a gloss black surface.
