Is this worth buying?
Posted by Brownsfan on Saturday, October 10, 2009 11:53 AM

I've always handpainted, but have been itching to try airbrushing.I'm considering my first airbrush purchase and found this combo in the "modelexpo" catalog:

A double action, internal mix airbrush w/.30mm nozzle & push button operation, along with the hose & bottles, and a 1/5 hp compressor w/regulator & filter, producing 50PSI. The package is $119.99. No name brand is given for either

I'm wondering if its worth the money, considering this would be my 1st airbrush and I don't want to spend much more than this.

Chinese clone of the Badger 150 and a cheap compressor. I'd avoid it, myself.

An airbrush and compressor are major purchases for most modelers, and trying to cheap out will only bring you disappointment. My recommended minimum budget is $200 before S&H with more money being invested in the compressor. Bear Air has some combo kits just above your indicated price range that at least offers a Peak or Paasche airbrush with a cheap compressor. At least the airbrush is better!

So long folks!

I wouldn't.

You can get an Iwata starter kit for as low as $194.00. And I feel you would be very happy with the Iwata, for years to come.

Check out chicagoairbrushsupply.com and go to "Starter Kits".
