It shouldn't have any adverse effect on plastic.  I've used automotive primer for years as primer on both metal figures and plastic models without any problems.  And as noted, if you have any doubts, test it on sprue or and old model.

Spray it on some sprue. See if it melts. Or try an old, trashed model if you have one.

I went out to the LHS the other day, bought Armory brand primer; Got it home & realized it was mainly for metal figures, etc...

I was wondering if using it would melt my model? it looks like it's got the same solvents as other primers I've used, just concerned about it's melting ability...Question [?]
