Another nod for mineral spirits.

Have you assmebled the fuselage yet? I haven't seen your build thread in the a/c forum lately. *off to look at the aircraft forum)

I use artist oils and mineral spirits over future and have had no problems. I don't over do it with the manipulation of the weather mix though. Just enough to put it where I want it. Once nearly dry I use the Swanny paper towel swab to remove excess, again using little manipulation.

I use artist's oil-based paint thinned with turpenoid to a coffee-like consistency. It won't attack the Future overcoat, and in fact a glossy Future overcoat is often recommended before doing the wash. The glossy finish allows the wash to flow uniformly, such as along panel lines and recessed details, instead of just spreading out haphazardly.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Well, I did pretty well on my last chem quiz...

Use mineral spirits instead of Turpintine. That stuff is nasty...

Steven,

I like to use Createx airbrush paints as they are made for T-shirt airbrushing and don't stick real well to plastic. That makes them ideal for highlighting panel lines, etc.

Yeah, I believe it is acrylic - brain fart while I was at work.  This is about what I was thinking, so I'll go with my other method of using MM acrylic thinned with soapy water.

"water-based "oil" paint" ??????

Do you mean an artist's acrylic? If so, it may bond to the Future.

Turpentine may contain alcohols that will dissolve Future.

Ok, tonight I intend to put down a wash on my current build, a Tamiya 1/32 F-4J Phantom II.  The airframe is painted with Tamiya spray paint (light gray and insignia white).  I believe those paints are lacquers but they might actually be enamels.  Not sure.  I've put down a couple of coats of Future which have had more than enough time to fully cure.

My wash technique is to mix some water-based "oil" paint (burnt umber or black) with water and apply that to the airframe.  I let it get to the point that it is almost fully dry then rub the majority off with a rag soaked in turpentine.

I don't recall weather the last build I did this on, roughly 10 months ago, whether I coated that build with Future or Testor's clear gloss.  I didn't have a problem with that build.  Any one know if Future will react badly with the turpentine?
