Another Spraybooth WIP
Posted by fox on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 10:02 PM

Saw wing_nuts post on the homebuilt spraybooth and decided to give it a try. Been looking for one for a while and kept putting it off due to the high prices. Got a cabinet from a neighbor that was to go out in the trash. It had no back, one shelf and a one piece door. That thing weighed a ton. It was 28 x 22 x 14. I took the shelf out and removed the door. That lightened it up quite a bit. Added some braces to the back and put a piece of plywood panneling inside. Caulked it all up including the holes for the shelf mounts. Dug into my electric scrap cabinet and got a switch and box and mounted them to the side of the cabinet.

Ordered the same blower and adapters that wing_nut used in his. Going to the hardware store tomorrow for all the odds and ends that I need to finish the booth. Haven't decided where to put the lights yet.

Wing_nut I hope you don't mind my using your post as a guide. That's a great looking booth and I know it will work as great as it looks.

Going to try to post some pics. Hope it works.

Got some more work done on the booth today. The filter is installed after putting a coat of Kilz on the bare wood. Installed an adjustable light on the side of the booth and made a simple lazy susan for painting. Waiting for the blower and adapters. Here's the latest pic.

Jim that looks great... and very familiarWink [;)]  Of course i don't mind if you use mine as a guide. That's the great thing about this forum.  Getting ideas to get something done.  I am flattered actually.

And you will be happy to know it works great too.

is there any reason why no-one makes the sides from clear acetate?

surely daylight would be better for spraying during the day and then you could use a built in lamp with white paper? taped around the outside for spraying at night............

Paul, I don't know if any of the professionally made spray booths have clear sides. I have seen a few with translucent sides.

I'm making mine out of what I can get my hands on cheaplyWink [;)]. As I said above, the cabinet was free, so it was my starting point. Your idea is a good one. Using the clear plastic would help. My booth is in a reclaimed spare bedroom that doesn't have much light. It's on the wrong side of the house so clear sides would do me no good even if I had them.

If you make one, try it with the clear sides. It couldn't hurt. Then let us know how it works (with pics of course). Your results might help someone else.

  Take Care.
