Thanks much for your suggestions.  I will try the enamel thinner and will also remove the tape ASAP.

I don't know if this is what's happened in your case, but it may not be residue from the masking tape.

Sometimes, especially when masking over Tamiya or Gunze gloss acrylics (using any type of masking tape) even when the base layer being masked over has been apparently dry for a week, you can get a reaction from the tape adhesive actually softening the underlying paint, and leaving a "textured" effect in the paint surface.  This can be worse if the tape is left on for a longer period. eg. several days to a week or more. I find the best way to minimise this is to paint and then remove the masking as soon as practically possible.

I have never had that problem with Tamiya tape before. And I have left it on for prolonged periods before. If you used Acrylic paint you may try an enamel paint thinner to get teh stuff of with a cotton ball. I have had luck with that in the past.

Removing masking tape adhesive residue

Have used Tamiya tape for masking and have noted some adhesive residue after the tape was removed.  Incidentally the tape remained on for several days.  What would be the best way to remove the residue without ruining the paint job? Acryl paint was used. I realize that the masking tape should be removed as soon as possible but is there any safe time limit that it can stay on?

Would appreciate any helpful hints on this subject.
