Indoor airbrushing?????
Posted by xwingfan on Sunday, November 22, 2009 4:55 PM

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with spray booths that are affordable and could be used indoors without cutting a hole in my wall for ventilation as this would most certainly end my marriage, or result in serious bodily harm to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 Thanks!!!

Nick,

Can you find a window and build a board to fit in the open window as I did here?

I take out the screen, put the board with the exhaust flap on the outside, connect the exhaust hose to the paint booth, paint, and when you are done you remove the board from the window, close the window and you are done. No holes in the walls of the house necessary! Wink [;)]

I had a similar unit to Mike's before I claimed my man cave area and punched a hole through the wall. Ah, the benefits of home ownership!

Worked great, while I had it. The yellow hose was connected to my "garage" compressor, so it was even quiet.

So long folks!

I just use a window and a fan, the key to low odor is low air pressure.  If you start blasting paint, the work area will stink to high heaven.  You can also use a respirator to protect yourself as well.

Thanks for the great suggestions! The board in the window thing is genius, but my "lair" is in my basement with no windows within reach. Are there any spray booths with internal filtration systems out there?

Yes there are. Look at the Artograph systems like this one:

That one looks interesting. Be sure and post your thoughts about it if you get one.

There are effective indoor filtration system like the Artograph that Mike pointed out. Reviews have shown that the multiple layer carbon system is effective, BUT at a high cost. The pre-filter sheets and replacement filters are NOT cheap. There is a controvercy on this forum on how long the consumables last before needing replacement. Look up Artograph for more info. I don't have one to know who is right.

Other cheap system using a filmsy fan and a single household air filter sheet is likely to be totally ineffective.
