Question on metalizer paint...
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 11:28 PM

A friend of mine brought me a bottle of Model Master Burnt Iron Metalizer paint, and it says for airbrush only. Why ?? I've never used it before, so any info will help. What are the reprocussions of brush painting it ?

It won't cover with a brush, it's too thin.  In fact its so thin it doesn't even require thinner in my experience.

As Coldiron said it is too thin, it needs to be atomized to get it to adhere to a surface.

It's thin and "hot." Brushing on enough to get a decent coverage would probably damage the surface of the plastic itself.

Thank you guys. i wonder if after you were done weathering, and put a good coat of flat over your work, if this stuff would really help with the whole rust effect. Time to play science class...Whistling [:-^]

I will add though, you can brush paint the Testor's metallizers on small areas that have been previously primed, I actually did this earlier this evening, the area to be painted was impractical to airbrush, and I suppose you can be use it with a brush for small scale touch-ups.
