Portable spray booth

I looked at the links provided.  The fan pulls a whopping 106cfm.  The fan is also an axial design that's more useful as a computer cooling fan than a spray booth fan.  There is no provision for exterior ducting--and there's no carbon filter.  Even with the provision for exterior ducting, the fan probably won't generate the necessary velocity pressure to get the vapors to the other end.

Bottom line:  If you can't exhaust vapors to the outside you're spending $120 for absolutely nothing. 

Sorry, but seeing stuff like this pi&*^#es me off.  Maybe I should start designing booths and taking advantage of unsuspecting modelers....

Wow, fantastic to hear from someone who has actually used the thing. I'm sold, getting it in the new year, when they're back in stock.

Also, *INDY, what did you replace the filters with?

I got the portable spray booth not long ago when it 1st appeared at ModelExpo(@  $99) It works darn well, and considering the cheap price, I would say its a pretty awsome deal. As for not venting it(as it says in the included literature"there is no need of venting outdoors") well, I gave that a try with some TS spray cans, and for a few uses it was ok, but as the filters filled with overspray the thing got quite stinky to turn on, muchless spray some more !  What I did was change-out the filter, and attached a flexable dryer hose from the back to snake out of the sliding glass door I have the spraytable in front of. That works perfectly. So I'd say it's best to ignore the claims of the  Chinese manufacturer and find a way to vent the thing like any other spray booth.

A filter doesn't stop odors unless it is a really good charcol one. Filters only collect particulates not vapors. If you are spraying petroleum based paints, consider something that vents outside.

Now that is said, when I do demos at LHS that don't have a paint booth I make one from a box (of appropriate size), filter and either a shop vac or box fan. The more you can mix air with the vapors being emitted the less noticable it is...for a short period of time. Fortunately I can get paint on quick and don't spend much time spraying.

Yeah, I read through the Armorama review when it first got posted. A member on another forum is about to order one, so I'd like to hear their thoughts on it. I have to say, I'm awfully tempted. For the price, it just can't be beat. I've been airbrushing without a spray booth for years, and this would certainly be a step up.

I will like to be open-minded and wait to see some comparative review with more traditional design with multiple layer, carbon based filter. But I can't help but think of the proverbal saying: "When it sounds too good to be true, it usually is."

The product description and the review they cited did not provide any proof on why the design can work.
