You would need to overspray with a clear gloss finish-something that's needed anyway if you intend to use decals. Decals will not adhere properly to a flat finish. As to what kind to use, read further into this forum for recommendations. Different people have their own preferences. Most use Future floor finish but I have my own choices: a Floquil product (made by Testors) called Crystal-coat, but it does have handeling issues or Testors Gloss Coat, which is a Lacquer product with nasty fumes.

Understanding the Federal Standard Color  numbers

 

The first number is the finish..

1 is gloss

2 is semi gloss

3 is flat or lusterless 

 

its an intersting read..

I'm looking for guidence on how to read the FS paint codes. The FS equivalent I'm looking for is FS26173 but the closest model paint I can find is 36173 which doesn't look right, so the question is how far off will the 2 numbers look when applied?
