CuriousG I looked for it myself on a Testors chart and I am guessing that what Stikpusher was using is Aircraft Interior Black (FS37031), MM#2040.

Sorry, that is the color I was thinking of. I confused the name with RAF cockpit green.
F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!
U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

For this kind of black I recomend the Humbrol 32. It works excellent for rubber and proved itself in three-tone camos as black, plus you can use Humbrol 33 on it for shadows. Hope it helps, have a nice day

Nope, but its on my shopping list for the next mail order. I'm getting better with brushpainting acrylic, but it still cant compare to enamel, and that NATO black is a very useful shade. Hope this will be a close match: http://www.testors.com/product/0/2040/_/37031_Aircraft_Interior_Black_%28F%29_MM_-_12_oz._Bottle
I did look into the Revel Anthracite, but it appears to only be available in UK and Asia. It's beyond me why Testors would make such an effort to replicate FS colors and NOT label a commonly-used NATO tri-color like Tamiya does.

Thank you. It is a very logical guess. Did you try it yet?
stikpusher From Testors MM II line, Cockpit Black is a good substitute, but it tends to be a bit darker and has an almost satin finish.

Hi, do you have a MM # or official name for this "Testors MM II line, Cockpit Black"? I am interested, but cannot find this color on the Testors catalogue.
Thanks for the help guys. Revell Anthracite Grey sounds like it may be just the thing I needed.
Konigwolf13Phil whast the range like in Sydney for paints? In Hobart we have Revell and Humbrol for enamel with Tamiya and Gunze Sangyo for Arctlic.
Hi Andrew,
Commonly it's Testors, Humbrol, Revell, Tamiya for enamels. Acrylics -Tamiya, Gunze Aqueous and some places have Humbrol acrylics. I've seen Alclad in one or two places, but that was some years ago.
Vallejo and Lifecolor are generally non existent in Sydney, though I believe Friontline Hobbies in Newcastle have them.
My Vallejos come airmail from LuckyModel in HK.
Revell Anthracite Grey, is a damn close match, maybe a shade darker
Revell 9 (matt), humbrol approx equals are 85 or 182, hope that helps.

In some countries, Tamiya paints are available in enamels (exactly the same shades and same paint numbers - eg. Nato Black = XF-69 in both enamel and acrylic, only the base is different).
I haven't used Tamiya enamels, so I can't comment about how well they brush, but if you're not averse to ordering from overseas, they can be had from Asian based hobby shops (eg. LuckyModel).
I use NATO black a lot. It's great for rubber on armor road wheels (or any rubber really), parkerized gun barrels, 3-tone camo, and lots of other stuff. The bottle I I have is Tamiya acrylic, and not the best for brush painting. Does anyone know if there is a Model Master color that matches this? Or other brand in enamel? I have looked at some Testors color charts and can't find it.
