Masking an F-16
Posted by jragusa on Saturday, January 9, 2010 9:07 AM

I am building my first F-16 with the standard dark gray over gray with the semi-circle pattern near the cockpit, I hope I explained that well. Anyway are there any tips to getting the masking for this section symetrical?? I been playing with cutting out paper foldered over and then transferring that to tape. Is this about the best option? I figured I'd ask before attempting this on the kit.

Thanks

JR

Frisket film, Parafilm M, Nexcare Waterprooof Tape (it's flexible in all directions) or a pencil line and freehand.

I used the kit painting instruction photos and made a copy of it the size I wanted and printed it out.

Then I cut it out of the printer paper and placed it onto the model with a piece of doubled over masking tape to act as a somewhat soft mask. You could use masking tape but it will be a very hard line which I don't think looks as good. Just be careful and mask the rest of the kit really well or you will get overspray and have to do it all over again.

I free handed mine and believe me, it took several attempts to get it right!

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

Why did you do that? It is a sharp demarcation line which means it was masked when they painted the real plane. Wink
