Floquil primer under automotive basecoat/clearcoat, will it work?
Posted by Mako72 on Sunday, February 7, 2010 1:08 AM

I am painting a 1/25th white styrene car body for use in elec slot car drag racing. Basically you use the styrene body from a plastic car model kit and mount it to a custom built elec motored chassis for slot car drag racing. The car bodies are painted with automotive paints because they will stand up better to the rigors of elec slot car racing better than model paints. Most racers are using automotive Duplicolor gray sandable primer over the bodies and then finishing them using an automotive basecoat/clearcoat. However using the thicker  Duplicolor primer tends to blur the fine lines of the model body. I am considering using Floquil/Testors Railroad Colors F110009 gray primer airbrushed on the white styrene body. Then airbrush the automotive House of Kolor's Airbrush line of basecoat and cover with an automotive clearcoat. I am wanting to use the Floquil primer because I understand that this line of Floquil primer is designed to prime a body without obscuring the fine lines of the model. So my question is will the Floquil primer adhere to the styrene and also work under the House of Kolor's basecoat/clearcoat? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
