oh, in that case, it is easier

http://www.cybermodeler.com/aircraft/f-5e/f-5e_scheme18.shtml

will give you one of the schemes using Dark Earth

going to F on this list, and going through the F-5 schemes may give you all the colors for the exact one you want

http://www.cybermodeler.com/resource8.shtml

hope this helps

Rex

a quick way to get around any FS confusion on the "paint help" websites,,,,,,,,just go back a few years to when paint names were still official

if you want to find a Dark Earth for a US aircraft,,,,,,don't look for FS 30118, that number was assigned as a cross match well after the WW II use of Dark Earth,,,,,go and look for ANA 617 Dark Earth, and ignore any FS references it gives,,,,,,just go by the ANA match (search for 617 and Dark Earth separately, maybe, then compare search results)

30118 *is* not as red as ANA 617 *was* anyway,,,,,,so, even if you solved the FS riddle, your color would be browner than you might want

if you want acrylics, LifeColor UA016 matches the 30118 chip, and Vallejo 70983 is "Flat Earth", and matches 30111 (slightly redder than the UA016 paint)

When you punch in that FS number in the paint conversion chart, it comes up as dark earth only.  Searching khaki drab on the same site it gives FS 34064 as well as an olive shade.

Khaki originally was a brown or 'soil' colour when the British were first introduced to it when in India.  Over the years, the colour has changed and sometimes is interchangeable with olive drab (which is what happened when the States entered WW1 and adopted the British uniform colour and named it thus).

Even the definition of drab is not exactly one shade:

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/drab

a. Of a dull grayish to yellowish brown.
b. Of a light olive brown or khaki color.

So you can see, there is a lot of variety when talking about khaki drab and it is no wonder that paint manufactures might have identical colours, but labelled differently.

regards,
Jack

Either could be correct as the FS convention doesn't actually use names as such, the color looks like;

Which you can find on the rather useful FS color server at;
