Real G

I think it was Alclad steel.

Thank you so much!

I think it was Alclad steel.

Aside from a decal set, the kit was built without any aftermarket. The CSM and LM  "garage" are undersized, but I just detailed the SM as best as I could and called it a day.  The escape tower truss was refined but not corrected.

Real G

I just stumbled accross this website because of the photos in the this thread--some amazing photos.

Your Saturn V rocket looks amazing! It looks like you used silver for the fins and lower part of the fairings. What color are your F1 engines?

Thanks again Stik, this is great information to go on.

Am I the only one that just got a few weeks worth of FSM forum messages at once?

When my boys were littleish but old enough to have fun with ( now in mid latter 40's) we built flying rockets. I used Krylon paint on them fwiw. I hear Krylon formulation has changed since those day but just thought I'd mention it.

DJ, all the yellow areas on the Saturn V was pristine. Aside from some oxidized areas on the exposed Stage One engine bells, everything about the craft was beautifully mainted on display. Not dirty at all. I’d suggest good old FS Insignia Yellow.

Mick, I’ll get more photos posted later today.

Snibs & DJ, you’re quite welcome. I hope that the photos help. I have more photos of the Command, Service, and Lunar modules if you need them, as well as of the nozzle areas of Stages 1, 2, and 3. Kennedy is an awesome place to visit.

DJ, the Saturn V is indeed an incredible machine. So massive to see in person.

Ill put my hand up for more photo's Stik if it's not a hassle, I'm sure it will help 100's of modelers besides me as well for years. Thank's again Stik.

Stick the photos are super helpful thank you. I have ordered some new paints :-) Not sure how I will do the dirty yellow will have a think. I visited in late 2000. What a place! Needed a few days to be honest.

There was this big fuzzy grey squirrel that was trying to cut in line when we got there.  He/she went zigging and zagging between people.  It stopped in front of me and so one of my friends got a photo of it.

There was also a black bird with a weird raspy cry that sounded like an alarm that stopped by to say hello.  I started talking to it while waiting for my friends, and it let me go up to it and have its photo taken.

I didn't stop to chat with the ‘gators though.  Stick out tongue

I didn’t see any squirrels during my visit there. Only some endangered turtle that brings all movement to a halt.

OK I live where these running fire hazards don't exist, so I found them fascinating. So cute and grey and fuzzy and...

DaddyJ

Actually another question for you - What colour did you paint the top of the tanks on the inside of each stage? Airfix says Aluminium... If you look at the revell kit it says green and then looking at refence photos it looks almost yellow (in some photos). I think I'm leaning towards Aluminium ...

I went to Kennedy Space Center two years ago and took lots of photos. These photos are of the Saturn V on display from a cancelled Apollo mission.

the tops of the tanks for each stage are different colors.

Stage 1, zinc chromate with yellow framing,

Stage 2, orange brown,

Stage 3, bare metal
