Kleen Strip Naked Gun Cleaner for airbrush?
Posted by MJY65 on Monday, May 24, 2021 6:21 AM

There are times that the standard non-toxic water based cleaners just don't seem to work particularly well at cleaning primers out of my Iwata brushes.  Stynylrez seems particularly difficult if allowed to even slightly set up.

I use Naked Gun for cleaning my automotive spray guns and it works really well.  It  instantly dissolves every auto paint I've encountered.  It evaporates in seconds and leaves no residue.  The MSDS shows it is mostly acetone with a few other organic solvents mixed in.

Having said that, it's stinky, nasty, flammable and toxic.  I use it outdoors with gloves or in the garage with a respirator.  With proper health precautions, what are your thoughts on using it to clean an airbrush?  Will it instantly destroy the seals?

Thanks,

Mike

Can't say,but I will say that regular hardware store lacquer thinner has cleaned that Badger Primer mess out of my Iwata along with all other paints with no adverse effects to the brush.

Hmmmm....I tested a variety of cleaners by putting a few drops in disposable mixing cups and letting it start to dry/gel.  Tamiya Lacquer thinner didn't even touch it.  Perhaps theirs is a different solvent than the hardware version.

Hi;

    "Naked Gun" should not be used on softer metals continously. It is too strong Chemically and that's why you have to do what you do. You can use it, then wash all the parts with a foam made from Dawn and Hot Water and this includes all seals and " O " rings.
