Perfect Mixing Containers
Posted by Tanker-Builder on Sunday, August 1, 2021 10:56 AM

Hi;

       To give that friend or loved one who is in Hospital something to think about. Ask them to save the little plastic cups they get their Pills in! Why? Well, many of us mix certain colors for weathering or toning.Or a totaly different than what's in the Bottle for the model to be more accurate and to Compensate for Model Toning!

        These little guys have measurements on th sides( yes, they are readable! ) in Drams,ounces,T.B.S.s, and Milliliters and C.Cs, now hows that for Accurate measurements? I have used them with my Vallejo paints, because remember I still use paint Brushes NOT Airbrushes because of Allergies in the home.

I am in kidney dialysis three days a week.  Each day I get medications in one or two of those cups.  I carefully save the cups.  I now have a big supply of them- I use them slower than I receive them.

Before I started grabbing those cups I did buy a package from Amazon (usually called dosage cups)- a hundred for a few bucks.

I get mine at the local Wendy's burger joint.  They have stacks of them on the table with the condiments for use with the ketchup pump.  Just right for the job!  I always grab a few extra when I eat there.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Good idea TB.

A couple of months back I addressed this issue as well. I wanted something for mixing custom paint colors and I wanted something close to the size of an AB paint cup. This then would help me guage the amount of paint that I need to use. I came up with a couple of options.  See below.

I placed the AB paint cup in the image for scale. The clear container is a communion cup. These work really well for mixing acrylics. You can buy a 1000 of them for like $15! When done mixing--dump the mixture in the AB and toss the container. No muss--no fuss--no cleaning. The plastic does not handle lacquer, though. It will melt. Yes-- I forgot that potential issue--hence why the copper drums to the left. I found these in the plumbing section of the hardware store. They clean easy and work well for the hotter thinners and paints.

Regarding the communion cup-- I trust the good Lord won't mind me repurposing them. No disrespect meant.

I always was given my pills in little paper cups, and those would work for enamels and lacquers.  Not so much with acrylics that aren't alcohol based though.  They tend to be unfriendly to the wax coating in a paper cup.

Even if they had plastic cups back then, I dont think He would mind! Big Smile

My wife is a nurse and she has scored a few for me in the past. Now I use 2 stainless steel condiment holders and they get the job done nicely.
