Mr Leveling Thinner

I don't have any Stynylrez primer to try it, but curious as to your motivation.  Generally, acrylics are used to avoid the fumes and toxicity of solvents.  If you're going to mix it with lacquer thinner, why not use Tamiya FSP, Mr Fine Surfacer or other solvent based primer that works better anyway?

I wouldn't do it. I don't remember my exact reason but suffice it to say hardware store lacquer thinner works much better. I want to say that with MLT the compatability wasn't there but it's been a while since I tried it.

I will say this: Mr Primer Surfacer stinks to the high heavens, exceedingly above Stynylrez with LT in it. I use both products. I don't always thin Stynylrez and when I do I also don't always use LT in it. But it thins well with LT and the finished result is both a very excellent bond and baby butt smooth finish.

What i get here is YES i can use LT in STYNYLERS but i will see. I will try it on a old model and see what happens. Thank you all.

OK. I tried Stynylers with alittle LT and it started spitting, kept clogging the tip. I tried it without thinner and it did not clog the tip but i did'nt like the way it covered. I went to my old faithful (Vallejo) and it workes fine for me. I don't intend to sand the primer, so i am not worried about removing the primer. I read all the post and like to try different things. Some may have good results with one thing, while others can't get it to work. But thanks again for the advice.

Hah,most folks would argue that Vallejo primer is about the worst you could get in a primer !

I been using Stynlrez about 6 or so years now and had no issues with it. You do need to power mix it now and then. If it settles out from sitting you can mix with a stick till you're dizzy and it doesn't really all go back together. The Badger mixer does it in about 30 seconds. But I do recall that Mr Leveling thinner was not so hot in it as I said in my other post.

I have used Vallejo RAL 7028 Dark Yellow Primer as a base coat with good sucess thinned with their thinner and flow improver,I'm not sanding it,but I have used Tamiya paints to apply the tri-color camo over it with no issues and I like the finish.

So it's about whatever works for you.

Just my opinion with sandabilitry aside, I've always suspected that the bad press on Vallejo primer is based on not following instructions. Many modelers are horrible at reading the labels, either that we're all getting so old we can't see the blasted things anymore lol !
