Strange airbrush operation
Posted by Bones-coa on Friday, September 5, 2003 7:07 AM
Well, I posted the other day talking about my Paasche H and mentioned how great it was after so many years. Well, maybe I shouldn't have. I disassembled it and cleaned it a few weeks ago and used it for the first time since last night. When I hit the trigger, I get a quick spray of paint, then air, and then a steady spary of paint. Letting off the trigger and hitting it again does the same thing. I don't ever recall it doing that before. I checked my air pressure and it's where I usally set it so I'm not sure what's wrong. Is she sucking air somewhere? Any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like a seal is not working somewhere. You might try replacing any rubber of tephlon seals in it.

Not sure how old your H is but naplak is on the right track...disassemble the brush and inspect the parts. What I do ocassionally with my Paasche-H is check for air leaks around the trigger housing by submerging it in a shalow pan of water (see instructions for details and parts list). Also check your air hose connection- Paasches have to be wrench tight. While your at it; go ahead and soak the nozzle and needle in laquer thinner to remove any traces of clogged dry paint. Hope this helps.

First off, when you disassembled your air brush did you remove the rubber seal inside the tip? If not, do so and clean the whole thing. it's not a great idea to soak it laq. without removing this first. If it is dry and hard, you'll need a new tip as paasche doesn't sell them seperatly. two, are you using a gravity feed cup? if so this is usually a typical occurance as an air bubble will form when you add paint to the cup. If it happens every time, put a bit of vaselene on the feed tube. it will create an air tight seal and make cleanup easier. Three, a siphon jar. check the vent hole in the top of the lid and the tube connection to the lid.

other than those three things how about thinning?

You may want to replace any rubber o-rings inside the nozzle with a teflon one now used in current Paasche-H's. This will invariably solve many problems with performance. With how inexspensive H parts are, you may want to go ahead and order a new nozzle/ needle set for it. They will have the newer teflon o-rings in them. You'll be able to spray anything and you should'nt have to replace them again, unless you physicaly damage them by dropping it or bend it out of shape.

I think I need to look a little cloeser at the seals etc. in the airbrush. I think that is where my problem lies. Thanks guys.
