Model Master makes an excellant crossreference book that will match just about any color to a manufacture. I've seen it at hobby shops. I don't know if it's available to the public or just hobby shops.

Sneakypete134,

Thanks for the help (which I am getting from someone else starting this post! ), I am going to checkout and bookmark those links. Well, this one maybe has a typo?
It brought me to a "Fortune City" page saying cannot find the page you are looking for.

PS. I might cover all of your post if I keep trying long enough. I have a Russian Fulcrum model and an actual photo taken from one of our stealth bombers. The instruction in the kit give no paint company references but the paint names they give match the picture. Their aircraft upper surfaces have light gray and dark gray in a camouflage pattern and medium gray around the canopy and this matches pretty closely the real photo. The underside is the light gray color. I used Poly Scale 505726 Pale Blue Gray (FS 36440) and 505530 Haze Gray (FS 36251) and 505014 Scale Black (RLM 66 Interanational Black Gray) which is actually a very dark gray. The charts I have managed to find don't list any cross walk from Poly Scale through their numbers but you can get there from the FS number.
This probably isn't much help but it's all I know.

I didn't get the second URL typed correctly and noticed it as it was flying off of the screen so here it is again.

After writing my initial request I found the following sites with charts that compare Humbrol with a number of other paint manufacturers. The first URL has the best chart but the second one can also be of some help. Humbrol also has a brochure that you can get at most good modeling store. The brochures compares their numbers to other companies and gives you some other pretty good data.

Hope this is of some help.

That is something I would like to know about also. I can tell you that in October 2002 Finesacle Modeler there is a World War II Model Paint Guide which is of some help. Organized by major warring powers, it lists colors, such as under United Kingdom, Medium Sea Grey, and then gives the reference number for brands of paint, if they have something like that. Listed are Gunze, Humbrol, Polly Scale, Tamiya, Testor, Testor Acryl, and Xtracolor Enamel.

I say some help because for example, I am working on a Soviet fighter called the Lagg-3 (66 series). The instructions refer to Humbrol paint colors, and for the underside list a blue shade. On the chart there is a Soviet Union section, a listing for "Underside blue", but a dash for a Humbrol color ( and other brands also ), to say, I guess, there is no Humbrol color for "Underside blue". So I am not sure who is right, the kit instructions or the chart. I partly think the kit insturction is wrong because it also suggests two shades of grey for the top camo colors, but the Squadron Signal book says this plane had a couple other colors for the topside colors, olive-green and something. Or maybe in reality both schemes were used.

Maybe I am misunderstanding the chart the scope of its intent. I would refer it to you at any rate.

Now wouldn't it be neat if someone had access to live, non-faded, samples of any subject, and using color spectroscopy, compare the original colors with samples of paints. That would not be too hard would it... Smile [:)]

Where can I find or buy a paint comparison chart that lists the paint color and part number by brand name and matches it to other paint brand/name & number?
