Matt enamel finish goes shiney when handled
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, September 15, 2003 6:19 PM
When airbrushing with matt enamel paints, i get a really nice finish. But, if i accidentally rub or scratch the paint lightly, it goes shiney. This happens after the paint has dried, and has me paranoid about handling the model- a real pain when doing further work on the thing. What am i doing wrong, and how do i get a matt emamel finish that is tuff, resilient, and won't go shiney on me!?

Thanks,

Dan

Once your model is done and you have applied decals (which do adhere better on a gloss surface), spray it with a flat clear coat to return the matt finish you desire. If you are the type of person with oily skin, you might want to invest in a pair of cloth gloves - not sure where to purchase them, but they are like t-shirt material and have seen them worn when changing delicate light bulbs.

I use disposable white nylon gloves I got from American Science and Surplus: http://www.sciplus.com/

They are $5.75 for 12 pairs: http://www.sciplus.com/singleItem.cfm?terms=6293&cartLogFrom=Search

They work really well for me!

Ok, we have another modeler here who flys around the house or crawls around on the rug with his finished models. Big Smile [:D]Cool [8D]Big Smile [:D]Dan, www.micromark.com sells white cotton gloves by the package.
