Ordering Paints Online
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, September 19, 2003 1:15 PM
Hello,

I have finished my M1A1 and am shifting gears back to aircraft. I have an A-10 that I am just starting and have an F-5 on deck. I am trying to find a place to order acrylics for the F-5. I live in the OKC and the only hobby shop that we have (if you can call it one) is Hobby Lobby and they don't have the best selection of paints.

I am wanting to paint the F-5 in the Air Force aggressor colors. I am looking for Light Blue FS35414, Blue Gray FS35190, Gray FS35164 and Pale Blue FS35622.

A few of the problems that I am having: I cannot make a match between FS #'s and Tamiya or Testors acrylics. Also Tamiya (from what I have seen) does not have for example a paint called blue gray and without being able to compare the actual color (can't do that online) I am not sure if I am getting the correct color. I know that there was a FSM that came out that had a paint guide in it but I cannot locate my copy.

So does anyone know of a good place to order these paints (I usually order online from squadron) and does anyone know the colors that match up with the FS #'s.

Also, I am wanting to stick with acrylics because they are so much easier to clean up and they don't smell as bad as enamels.

Any help would be greatly apprectiated.

I had posted this address earlier, but I'll put it here again for you:

http://miniatures.de/html/esp/colourFS.html

This chart should tell you anything that you want to know about who puts out what color. Squadron would be a good place to get them, or www.greatmodels.com webstore would have them.

Good luck!

If you can make it down to Tulsa, there are several really good shops here. There is one in particular in Owasso, that has a whole big section of wall devoted to nothing but paints. They carry all the major brands, and several other that I've never even heard of. I bet they'd have them, their model masters section it pretty big.

Thanks a lot for the info. It sure would be nice to get a real hobby shop in OKC. I was looking at the HobbyTown USA website and they said that a store was opening in the summer of 2003. The summer of 2003 has past and no store. Oh well.

Thanks for all of the help on the paint. Anyone know why the different companies don't come up with an FS list that matches their paints?

I ended up having to go with Testor MM enamels for the paint scheme that I am going to do. There was no way to tell about the Tamiya paints.

Thanks again everyone.

You can order Testors paints directly from Testors by going to their' web page. I don't know the web address, but use a good search engine (like on Yahoo), type in Testors, and that should get you to thier' site. They offer their' entire line of paints on that web site. I've ordered and never had a problem.
