Thanks for the response fellas. Since I first posted on this I followed Swanny's advice and tried a product called "Pledge One Go". It is made by SC Johnsons and is the supposed to be the same or very similar to Future. So far it has worked perfectly, sprays on without thinning, nice and glossy and smooth, dries quick and seems unaffected by thinners and turps. Thanks Swanny! I suggest to Michal and other Aussies to try it, I got mine from Woolworthes. LeeTree, I can't seem to find 'Klear' at all and haven't tried Pascoes though I have seen it on the shelf right next to the Pledge One Go product. Chances are that "Klear" and "One Go" are the same product by Johnsons. I still can't understand how Tamiya can make a specialist product like X22 for modeling and somehow not be aware that it doesn't really work that well so we modelers turn to using floor products to get decent results.

Kind Regards......Snowy.

Snowy,
I've not had screaming success with Tamiya X-22 clear, either, but Future works just as well as everyone says it does.
SC Johnson's makes a very similar product to Future and markets it in Oz - it's called Johnson's Klear. You should be able to get it at Coles or Bi-Lo.
Apparently it reacts the same way Future does - so whatever you read about Future should apply to Klear.
I've not used Klear yet (my mum sends me Future from the States), but reliable sources tell me it's very good. Lemme know how you get on with it.
Cheers
LeeTree

Hi Snowy, Pascoes Long life is available here in Oz, and as a matter of fact I put a post up several months ago about it. I was using it, but didn't have a great deal of success, I think it was because I was putting rather heavy coats on. Grab yourself a bottle and give it a whirl.

Thanks for your reply Swanny, as you probably know we can't get Future here in Oz so I'll look for Pascoes as you recommend although the name doesn't ring a bell. Do you know for sure if it's available over here? The hardest challenge I'm finding at the moment is to find a suitable acrylic gloss as I like to use thinners/turps and oils for panel lines and weathering. It's really frustrating to hear all this good stuff about Future and not be able to get your hands on it!

Best solution = Future, in your case some Pascoes Long Life floor wax - very close to Future but you need to use light coats due to the ammonia base.

Tamiya X22 Clear

G'day guys, I have a question about Tamiya X22 Clear. When I try to use this stuff as a glossy coat before decalling I find it difficult to achieve a nice smooth glossy layer. I'm thinning with Tamiya thinner at 50/50 but find if I try to "build" a coat in layers I get a very rough sandpaper type surface texture. The only way I can get something resembling a smooth texture is to try for a heavy coat where it almost seems to be on the verge of running but the clear seems to need this so as to level itself for smoothness. I don't have this problem with other paints in their range (same thinning ratio) and I have had success with those by slowly building the coat up and achieving a perfectly smooth finish. I assume the clear is designed to be sprayed on as a stand alone coat unlike the Flat Base which I'm aware is to be mixed with other colours to flatten them. I'm obviously doing something wrong or missing something here so has anyone else had similar experience? Any help greatly appreciated. Also a big THANKS to all the guys who recommended the Iwata HP-CS eclipse when I was looking to buy, as this brush is making my paint jobs turn out better than I deserve with my limited experience.
