What is the problem?

Why does everyone seem to hate the Aztek airbrush? I had one given to me two years ago and have never had any problems with it. Is there something I'm missing?

Spend a few minutes with a Paasche VL and we will welcome you to the side of goodness and light.

On reflection have you thought of why you were "given" an AztekQuestion [?]

Well, I loved mine at first too, until it stopped working very well. With mine, it just stopped spraying consistantly. I never really had spattering problems very much, because I kept it very clean, but sometimes it would spray, and sometimes it wouldn't. It also would be spraying just fine, then stop for a few minutes, then start up again. I bought about 5 different tips and tried them all, to no avail. To this day I don't know what was wrong with it. I do still have it though.

I got pretty tired of the cleaning process for it as well, as having to disassemble the tips to get paint out was much harder than cleaning my Iwata is. I was eventually going to get another airbrush anyway, as I wanted a double action and my Aztek was single action. If my Aztek had worked nicely, I'd probably have ended up with an Aztek double action, but the way it worked out I got my wonderful terrific Iwata instead. Also, my great Iwata double action was cheaper than my single action pos Aztek.

By all means, if you're happy, stick with it. I've heard from several people who are perfectly satisfied with theirs. It seems to be a love it or hate it item. You'd be a fool to spend money on something to replace something else that works perfectly well. If you know someone with a different brush that would let you borrow it, try it out for a few days and compare them both. I think you'll be surprised, just don't go blowing money for no reason.

As usual custom/habbit and maintenance play their mark.

I liked my aztek, but Iwata is true salvation!

I used to swear by my Aztek until one day it just stopped working very well for me. I would clean it very well and follow manufactuers suggestions but still poor performance. I also thought about all the replacement nozzles I had purchased over a 9 year span at $8.00 a pop...and I almost had a coranary! Recently thumbing through Tamiya magazine I read about the Iwata HP-CS and purchased one to test drive.........wow! Right out of the box it had the finest atomization of modeling enamels and acrylics I had ever seen. It sprayed a fine line small enough for very intricate camo out-lining and then some. Whats more is that it cost less than my Aztek and clean up was fast and soo very easy! I haven't looked back since. I do, however; still use my Paasche H but the Aztek has become all but a relic.
