Using Future

Why do modelers spray Future when just putting it where decals are to go is sufficient? The gloss disappears nicely under a flat acrylic leaving an even sheen overall.

I will generally cover the entire subject not only for decals, but also for better results using washes.

Future has no good results like Alclad clear or testors glosses.Future is good for clear parts .Also the very best is clear gloss non-spar varnish.

Some also do it for their pin washes, but you are correct, there may not be a need to gloss the whole model.

I'm one that only glosses the decal areas unless I plan to do a lot of washes.  I generally do not use washes, using dry brushing instead.  I only very occasionally use washes, and mostly for interior areas well before final painting.

I do the whole model in Future, then 'spot-Future' it when laying decals. I thought I had read on Swanny's (or someone else's) website that a fresh layer of Future will soften the layer under it,providing for a better 'painted on' look of the decal. It sort of melds or welds into the two layers of Future, as I understand it. Just my process, anyway.
