Cartograf decals?
Posted by Roald on Thursday, August 17, 2017 12:54 PM

I used Cartograf decals recently, which came with a new Airfix kit, and was very pleased.

I cannot seem to find these particular decals for sale, however. Perhaps they are not sold separately, but only with kits?

Does anyone know of a source to purchase these?

The Company Cartograf does the silk printing/screening process for other manufacturer's, such as Model companies, and Aftermarket decal companys, such as Furball/EagleCals/Afterburner, Caracal, Speedhunter...these companies are the ones who come up with the designing and drawing of the sheets to market.

As Nathan mentions, they make decals for other model companies but don't sell their own. They seem to be becoming more popular with more and more companies getting them to make their decals.

Great, thank you for the replies.

I have never used aftermarket decals before, always just used what was in the kit. The Tamiya decals have been very disappointing, however.

Any advice on what aftermarket decals are worth the price?

What I liked about the Cartografs was that they seemed tough and not prone to tearing or warping when setting solution was applied, but formed to contours very well.

There is a huge selection of AM decal companies out there. But quite often it boils down to who covers the subject you want.

But qute often you can find you are paying a lot for one set of markings.

Of those i have used i like Xtracolour and Print Scale.

I am currently using a set of aftermarket decals from Custom Aeronautical Miniatures, and find them to be of high quality.  I can recommend that company.
