Swastikas decals for Hindenburg
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, March 10, 2005 10:03 PM
Howdy,

I'm currently building the 1:720 scale Hindenburg model made by Revell Germany. Because It's a Revell Germany kit it doesn't have any Swastikas. I'd really like to make it accuratly but I don't know which decal sheet I should get. If you could please help me with this that would be great. Thanks.

I cant help you but just out of curiosity why cant Revell-Germany print the swastikas? Is there some law prohibiting that country after WWII? Afterall, it is for history purposes, not hatred.

This is from an old CNN web page from 2000

The growth of the Internet has given Germans increasing access to extremist materials such as Third Reich imagery and symbols, which were banned after World War II. Possession of swastikas and making the stiff-armed Nazi salute are illegal in Germany.

For some reason ther Germans are a little sensitive about that whole Hitler Holocaust thing and therefore don't like Nazi symbols because, I guess, they are both ashamed and afraid of what it stands for, and it has much more than a mere historical signifigance to them.

but as for the whole decal thing I still would like some help. I was thinking that if there are any decal sheets with swastikas of differenct sizes for 1:72 scale aircraft might work. Please let me know if anyone has any information.

Squadron makes a 1/48 set that might do the trick as a 1/72 hindenberg is a lot larger than a 1/72 aircraft.

here is the link, actually if you go to squadron and search there are several 1/48 sets. the ones that went on the rudders might produce the right size for you...

--edit--

www.greatmodels.com has in 1/72 just go to their page, hit search and type in swastika.
