I am just finishing a model of a 1/72 PBY5 Catalina for my father, for which he was part of the aircrew for in the Korean War. He was part of the 132nd ASR (air/sea rescue) based at Saufly Field, Pensacola, in 1952. I just came across a picture of an ASR Cat from that base and year in the Squadron Signals PBY Catalina Walkaround (Walkaround #5, page 80). The picture shows the word 'RESCUE' in black across the top of the wing, on a yellow background. Does anyone know of a decal set that would include any ASR markings; especially the 'RESCUE' letters .... or what font would be appropriate to use if I try to print my own decals?
I am really hoping for a decal set, as I have never attempted printing my own decals and am afraid I wouldn't have the skills to do it. Aside from that, his particular plane also had a rebel flag under each side of the cockpit and the words 'twin screws' in white. I wouldn't be opposed to buying mutliple decal sets to obtain the flag, etc., but I don't know where to begin as the number of companies putting out decals seems to be overwhelming for aircraft models.
Any advice or points in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!
