Is Solvaset supposed to be really strong or do Academy decals just really suck?

Solvaset is my nuclear option when all else has failed. I have heard that their decals are iffy in quality.

I have this ;

  Solvaset is made for rail-road decaling . It is one of the Hotter setting solutions out there . It is not compatible with Academy or Roden Decals in my experience .

Certain Academy decals are pretty weak. Others are very high quality by Cartograph. Those usually have some marking on the box to show the origin of the decals. The biggest problem I have found with the weak Academy decals is their adhesion. You may want to try using Future  to apply them and get them to lay down and stay in place.

I use Solvaset with all my decals.  It is the most effective decal solution that I've used.  It helps to have some experience with different decals to know how much and when in the decal process to use it.

Modeling is hands on, technique sensitive ... some folks just seem to have problems in that arena.

Most of the Academy decals are terrible except as stik said, the ones done by Cartograph which are excellent.

And yes Solvaset is very strong but works like a charm!
