It is easy to make decals for a nameplate with an inkjet printer, and some clear inkjet paper.  The simplest is just to do black lettering on the clear background.

If you have a graphics program that provides a negative or invert function, that makes an interesting decal. I type in black lettering on white background.  I thin invoke the above function and the design turns into white lettering on a black background.  The white lettering prints as clear, so when I apply the decal to the brass sheet, I end up with brass letters on a black background. I make the decal just slightly smaller than the brass rectangle so there is a brass outline to the nameplate.

Do you mean like a sticker? Or do you mean like a nice, brass plate that is etched? I have actually found that you can get a nice brass plate at the local trophy shop etched with your choice of text for under $10. Most of the ones I get run about $7. Usually they will ask you if you want an adhesive back on them, or if you want holes drilled in it and screws for it. I usually choose screws, but mine go on a wood base. The adhesive back is handy for pretty much any surface.

Go scope out the local trophy shop. Some good stuff there.
