Checkertails
Posted by Aggieman on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 2:21 PM

Any one know of a company doing decals for a "Checkertail" clan P-40 belonging to the 325th?  I have been unsuccessful in locating any decal sheets for North African P-40s featuring the yellow and black checkered tails (I have found a few sheets for the P-51). The markings look like they include US insignia with a yellow circular surround.  I'm not focused on any particular aircraft of this group but am really wanting to do one with that checkertail. I know I can paint it but masking all of that seems like a recipe for frustration.

I am pretty sure that Aeromaster and Superscale both did sheets in 48th for checkertail P-40s.

I triple dog dare you to paint it. I think you will be surprised at what you can accomplish.

Thanks stik. Wow, i have to wonder if those decals apply themselves at those prices. I think, given my current employment situation, I will just break out the masking tape and put a new blade in my knife.

youre welcome. The downside of OOP decals are the prices. You can always try eBay for one of the sheets. At least you know that they exist. And I knew my mind was not fooling me remembering about them. Good luck to you and post photos of the build once you get it underway...

I second MissVol. The thing is not hard to paint and actually ends up looking "made with loving hands' which is about right.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
