Techmod decals?
Posted by phil172 on Saturday, February 8, 2020 4:34 PM

I am having my first experience with using Techmod decals.  I can't figure out whether I love them or hate them.  It seems to me they use an incredibly thin or fragile carrier.  The upside of this is that it really just disappears, and the rest of the decal lays down in details so nicely.  The downside is that on just about every decal I've battled against it folding over on itself before it's in place.  Two of them did just that and after quite a bit of struggling I managed to get them unfolded (sweat).  So I ended up hating putting them on, but now they are on, I absolutely love them.

These decals are for a 1/72 BoB Hurricane in the Polish squadron.

I'm wondering if all techmod decals are like this?  I'd like to hear others experiences with them.

Regards,

Phil

Hello Phil!

I don't know - I believe I used one Techmod set many years ago - Polish "checkerboards" - and the decals were nice and thin. I liked them.

I wanted to advise you to always make sure to slide the decal from the backing paper directly to the model surface, and this in precence of a small water droplet near/at the edge of the paper - doing so reduces the risk of folded decal greatly.

Hope it helps, have a nice day

Paweł

The ones I used were just like that. They also stuck to the model right away and were impossible to move around.

Same thing happened to me when decaling a Spitfire with decals from them.

I used Techmod's meatballs on a Zero, no problems with them.
