Painting on aircraft markings
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 9:39 PM
I would like to know if there are any templates and or stencils on the market to use to paint on my 1/48 scale wing and large fuselage markings? I just might have to make some of my own templates. I have seen the photoetched german sawastikas online but that is not enough.
Any of the long time modelers have any ideas??
Thanks to all the plastic people here.

I painted fuselage codes on a Hurricane once. They were all straight lines. I got the dimensions I needed and used a straight edge to draw them on a sheet of frisket paper I got from an art store. Then I used a sharp blade to cut them out. I don't remember if i used the cut out letters and painted over them, or used the frisket as a stencil. Memory is the second thing to go. Frisket paper is like a single sheet of magic tape. If your markings aren't to fancy, this could work.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

What I'm talking about is...I have lazer cut stencils to use for the markings. I'm seeing about having the stars&bars cut for me now. These stencils are perfectly cut,I measured them to the "mm" and had some cut into different sizes going 2mm at a time up or down in size.
