P-47 "My Sweet Louise"
Posted by Janswede on Monday, October 6, 2003 8:53 AM
Is there any decals avaiable for this machine in 1/48?
I'm not sure to which fighter group she belonged,
saw her in one of those Osprey's "Aicrafts of the Aces" books,
now I regret that I didn't buy the book.
The name is in big handwriting on the lefthand side on a green P-47 razorback.
Just been looking around on the internet, but can't any decals for her Sad [:(]
Just thought that I would build this one for my wee 7 year old girl, who share the same name, Louise.

"I´m going back to the front to relax" (Charles Nungesser, WWI Ace). WHEN YOU'RE OUT OF F-8's YOU'RE OUT OF FIGHTERS. All the best! Jan Glasgow/Scotland

Hiya Jan,

I can't help you out as far as decals go, and I'm pretty sure no one makes a sheet with 'Louise' on it. But I believe this is the Jug you're talking about and I hope it helps you out some!

The aircraft was named 'Sweet Louise', 'Mrs. Josephine' and 'Hedy', the latter two names being on the starboard side as seen in the photos. She was flown by Capt. Virgil Meroney of the 487th FS, 352nd FG.

Again, I don't think that there's a sheet out there with markings for this Jug. But if Eagle Strike continues it's 'In Profile' series to include some 352nd P-47's, then this one is a natural. Meroney was the 352nd's first ace and it's only P-47 ace, if I'm not mistaken.

Anyhoo, here's a link to a page on the 352nd FG Association's website with a story called Raining Thunderbolts on the mixed-composition escort mission flown by the 352nd on March 8th, 1944. The 352nd was in the middle of transitioning to the Mustang when this successful yet tragic, if not unusual, mission was flown.

Hope you find all this interesting!

I don't know about decals but as for the names othe than "Sweet Louise" (Virgils wife), the other two names had to do with Virgil's mechanic, Al Geisting (spelling) pardon me I am a brain seizure patient. I am one of Virgil K. Meroney's cousins, As long as I live his memory and the memory of all "Heroes of the Sky" will live on for their sacrifices.

If you get a chance visit my website www.wwiiheroesofthesky.com

it is a work in progress and a lot of work and research. I am a 54 year old disabled vet and have dedicated myself to this website. I also welcome critics tell me where I can improve and so forth.
