NWSL Chopper vs Chopper II?
Posted by Johnny1000 on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 10:43 AM

I've scoured the internets and haven't been able to find a good comparative review...

Is the Chopper II actually worth the extra $ over the Chopper I for light use?

Also, if what you really care about is precision more than repeatability, is either really better than a good square/ruler, and sharp knife?

Thanks!

I cannot answer your first question, but the second one is a definite YES.  I bought a Chopper on the recommendation of my LHS (they probably just wanted to sell me something!), and have never regretted it.  I have had several projects that required repeated cuts, which would have made me pull my hair out if I had to squint, measure and cut over and over!

My attitude towards tools is that if they allow you to do something easier, they are worth it.

What, 10 bucks.?

im cheap I still have the original.

For a single cut, comparable to a hand held razor blade.

But where the chopper is best is when you need to cut a lot of pieces at the same length.

At a minimum put a piece of tape down on the bed anD mark the length of the piece to be cut.

Better, tape down a little stop and you can chop al day.

That the value of the chopper.

Mass production. All at a very precise length.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Hi J;

I had both " Choppers " .  I gave the one with the wood base to my son . Now mine is the " Chopper " with the heavier Aluminum base and arm . It looks kinda like cast iron . It's black and has one of those green " Self Healing " pads in the center all marked out in nice little squares .

I like that one best .The other one was fairly new and the reason I got it was I chopped the original into kindling . I used it that much ! The thing is , They Both do the job and it really depends how much you use them . Remember , I do a lot of commission work ( well , Used to ). That put's a strain on anyone's tools .

The heavier metal one was from a Sister in law who didn't know what to give the new addition to the family for Christmas . Great Sister in Law wouldn't you say ?    T.B.

I bought a Chopper with the wood base at IPMS Orange County in 2007. It's one of those things I almost never use, but when I do want it...
