Workbench/Model Area

here's mine,,,,,a new desk has been added since (drawers all the way down both sides) and the spray booth has been moved under the window to improve airflow

I won't bore you with pics of my work area...it's nothing to write Mom about...but I do have one piece of advice. You can NEVER have too many electrical outlets.When you think about 2 or 3 lamps for lighting,the air compressor,spray booth,dremel tool,TV (for when the putty's dryin') and some people even have a computer close by for accessing reference material on the fly,the need for outlets adds up pretty quick.Just my $.02 cents worth....

There is still a lot of work I would like to do with that space but it works for now.

I will have the table (counter) counter on Thanksgiving Day or the Friday after.  As far as the outlets go, It is going into our upstairs "bonus" room.  It is a 500 sq ft room used for a guest room and I am currently using a desk with a hutch that I don't really like.  Got permission from the wife for this project.  You have all probably been there.   Me:  "I have this really good plan for a modeling area"  Wife: "If you wanna"  That is all I needed.  Bought the countertop that day.  My contractor Father in Law is coming on T-Day and he is going to help install.  I will post pics.  Eventually, I will have a spray booth and some shelving.  Just need to get the table in first.

It was clean when I took the pic, but it usually looks like a bomb has hit it. I haven't invested or made a spraybooth yet, but the room is well ventilated and I use a mask.

Here's my Dog House.  I used Oak Plywood and solid oak trim and backsplash for my counters, worked well so far.  I used a good marine varnish to finish them.

 Not real fancy, but it works.

Alright.  Spent Thanksgiving before dinner putting this in.  The table is in.  I will stain the cabinets later.  6' x 4'.   Also will have shelves above.  The compressor is going directly down stairs in the garage with the airhose coming up from the floor with regulator attached so I can control if from upstairs.

Finally got my area cleaned up enough that the wife said I could post some pics.  So welcome to my working area (AKA "The Hole")

The working area is a workbench kit I got at the local hardware for 50 bucks (2x4s and 2x6s), the area to the right is the same size but built out of what I had on hand (it has a large storage area underneath for paint thinner, Future, VacuForm machine etc) w/the paint booth vented out a window to its rear. Air is plumbed from the compressor on the other side of the basement (in the wifes hobby area -Ha!)  The left side is a $5 Wally World shelf set, with a Craftsman tool box topped off with wooden machinists box I got at Harbor freight.  The other tools are hung on 1/4" peg board.

Here's my workbench. Its made from an old office desk and mostly found or free stuff.

 I build 1/96 and 1/100 ship models mostly, so the size is very handy.

Here is a recent shot of my current model:

You can see the more space, the more mess.  Every couple of weeks I do a stand down and get the place in shape again.

 What type of cabinets are holding up your bench.  Looks like exactly what I have been looking for.  Did you make them or buy them?

I went to a discount Cabinet shop.  All it is, is Unfinished Kitchen Cabinets.   They were about 34" tall, so I cut about 3 inches off the bottom.  They were about $80 a piece.  I have 2x4's undernead against the wall helping with support.  This thing is not going anywhere.  

I am still looking to accessorize my tool holding area.  I am really wanting to find out where i can get paint holders like what KINGTHAD has.  

Here are some more recent pics...(If anyone cares)  Added a shelf and some drawer pulls the the cabinets... Just trying to set back up again.  Most of my tools are still on the old desk....

the electrical outlets is a problem for fishkeepers (me)... there is always one more light to plug in, one more filter... and there is that durned airpump!

I made them my self. I formed the steel, welded it and threw some paint on them.
