Hint About FUTURE!
Posted by namrednef on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 6:00 PM

If you decant Future for canopy dipping etc.....do not use a Zip-Lock tupperware type bowl and lid to store it.

I'm not sure  if the plastic is degrading from Future fumes or what, but the lid was half welded to the bowl!.....Very tricky getting it off! I've since moved on to a glass jar

The Future itself seems fine.....working nicely,  but the bowl is junk now.

Just a heads-up!Thumbs Up [tup]

OOPS!!!

Guess I have made another mistake!! but so far, the lid is opening so I can only hope!

Cheers, Jake

Strange, it comes in a blow molded plastic bottle & is perfectly safe to use on styrene.  Nothing in it that should degrade plastic.  Still, I have always used glass jars for Future dipping, but it was more a matter of convenience in my case..

Interesting......I never had any Future contact the lip of the bowl nor the snap groove of the lid. However, there were large droplets of Future clinging to the underside of the lid like dewdrops. The stuff may have wicked to the bowl rim and settled there.

Upon taking it off, the stuff was like semi-set Testor's tube glue. As I said....tricky getting it off. Perhaps it was the heat and humidity in my basement?

When I saw this thread I ran to my Ziploc tubs and they were OK!!

When I drip in Future  before placing them in the Ziploc tub I place a folded paper towel in the bottom and a couple toothpicks on top of the towel. I then place my canopy on top of the toothpicks and replace the lid. So far no problems.

I had this happen too when I mixed up some window tinting and put it in one of those plastic resealable baby food cups you can get.  Exact same thing--drops of it condensed on the lid and crept outward to the sealing part.  Pretty much glued it shut after a while.  Interesting.    Now tho if I need to dip canopies I just pour a bit in a cup, do the dipping, and pour the remainder back in the bottle afterwards.  I keep the dipping cup upside down on some paper towel on a shelf for storage.

I have never used Future yet but I am going to ask some stupid questions.  What is decanting a canopy?  Also, why seal the canopy into a tub of Future?  Why not just dip it once let it dry and if it did not totally cover it dip it again?  I am just curious about this.

Hi SNOOPY

You don't decant the canopy. Decant means to take a fluid from it's original bottle and pour it into another container suitable for use. You can' really dip clear parts into a Future bottle, a shallow dish works very well.

I put the lid back on the bowl to keep dust and junk from getting into the bowl and to keep it fresh.

Decanting in this context means that you dip the clear piece into the Future and toch a corner of the piece to a piece of paper towel so that the excess Future on the piece "wicks" off.

No offense Ken, decant means.....decant. It has nothing to do with dipping. It is simply a word for moving fluids from one container to another.

Good of you to point out about wicking the excess though!
