A lingering question. The durability of Cutters for Sprue

       I read and responded to this thread about Sprue Cutters. Now, I have this to add seperately.

       I have at least ten pair! Acquired from old kits( In the box,) and other ways. I have some H.L. brand Cutters too and Some Xuron as well. I bought a pair of Xuron and was NOT happy with the shape!

       I flattened the blade profile from a side view and they fit in tight spaces better. I also thinned the shape of the blades. I have often had to modify cutters for one reason or another. The Trick to sharpness and longevity is this. For one Keep them sharp! This can be achieved with a Honing stick( used in proffessional kitchens) to an extra fine flat file from the small file group!

        The Cheapies from H.L can be used for many years if you DO-NOT cut Piano wire or Guitar strings with them. Use the proper cutting tools for these. Another type that have strong edges for cutting are those sold for cutting Came and Lead for Stained Glass. I firmly recommend these for general cutting. My LandLady gave me a pair Twelve years ago and I have yet to sharpen them. But, bear in mind they are fairly boxy in shape!
