Usefull and safe way to draw Tenax R-7 and ProWeld into a Touch-N-Flow
Posted by tlivancso on Monday, March 20, 2006 8:24 PM

Hello All,

I came across this idea about a week ago, I noticed that sometimes that when using Tenax or ProWeld that my Touch-N-Flow does not always draw the solvent into it. I know its not clogged because I always draw it along the seams away from the opening. Well anyhow the wife was cleaning out the little mans room and came across a pair of those blue squeeze bulbs the hospitals give you to clean the little peoples noses and throats out. And of course being a great wife, knowing I always have a use for anything placed them on my hobby table.

Well a week ago when I sat down to glue a fusalage together, taking out my Tenax and Touch-N-Flow, placing the tip in the bottle and waited, and waited and waited and Zzz [zzz]. After I awoke from my daydream about winning at the Nationals Big Smile [:D]. I thought what if I were to squeeze the little blue bulb and slip the end of the squeeze bulb over the end of the Touch-N-Flow, letting go it filled up the tube just grand.

And safe too I have heard of people drawing the stuff into the tube using there mouth Shock [:O] (More chlorine needed in the gene pool please).

I know you can buy these little gems at the local drug stores now a days.

hth

Cheers,

Thom Big Smile [:D]

Good idea Thom.
I have been looking for a good way to do this also and was thinking a syringe of some sort would work great also.

Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom. " Charles Spurgeon

Thom,

I'm really enjoying following these forum conversations.  I'm learning a lot just listening, and here again is a comment about something I bought and have never been able to get to work-- the Touch-N-Flow.  I haven't had much trouble getting the cement into it, I just can't figure out how to clean it out afterward (I know, follow the instructions--- I did, without success).  You sound like an expert at using this thing, so can you tell me what I'm missing?  By the way, I think the idea of using the syringe is a good one.  At the local drugstore I can get plastic syringes (no needles) that have straight or curved tapered tips that can be trimmed to produce an opening just the size you want.  It's probably a little more controllable than the rubber ball syringes you're referring to.  I use the plastic syringes to precisely place putty in order to cut down on sanding and clean up afterward.  Sounds like they'd work for drawing cement into a Touch-N-Flow as well.

Oh thank you!!! I thought I was going to end up throwing it away, but now I have a way! Thumbs Up [tup] I am really happy to know I'm not the only one who couldn't get it to work! It did work once, but the little bit I got in there went pretty quick, then it wouldn't work again! Party [party]Make a Toast [#toast]

I was getting ready to use mine tonight and when I went to push the suction thingy (tech term Wink [;)]) over the end, the glass tube broke in half! It didn't cut me or anything, but its a lot shorter than it used to be. Be careful, the glass doesn't seem to be real strong. Maybe it had a fracture or something, I don't know, but it broke pretty easy, I was barly pushing. Just a word of caution.

Yeah any decent LHS that carries model supplies ( not some place like Michaels or Hobby Lobby ) or most of the internet shops...

When you see it your gonna wonder why you spent $6+/- on a glass tube with a needle attached, but the first time you use it....then you'll know why!

Until it clogs the first time, then you will be wondering that again Big Smile [:D]

Does anyone use the squeeze bottle applicator? If so, how well does that work compared to the touch n flow.

You know I was going to say something about it clogging but I decided not to...If your using Pro-Weld fixing the clog ( I rarely get them, but I have had an occasional one ) is as easy as putting the metal tip back in the bottle for a second, take it back out wipe on a paper towel and your good to go again

Tenax is just about as easy, of course, I normally get the clog about the same time I get the air bubble from hell so it doesn't really matter what I do. I normally have to put it back in the bottle and use my suction tube to blow it out when that happens... I love being me Wink [;)]

Yeah those air bubbles are worse than the clogs as I constantly get those...

I kept hearing everyone complain about clogs, and here I am wonder what they're talking about....I've got bubbles folks not clogsDisapprove [V] lol

But it hasn't been to bad since I've been using the snot bulb or a syringe to draw pro-weld into the applicator.

It all depends on the way you pull the tip, away from the glue joint and you wont get many clogs, but push the glue, and its going to be clog city! I get both? Its just my luck Clown [:o)]

I might run to the drug store and see about getting 1 of those.  I quit using my touch and flow because I found that it would lose interest in refilling after 2 times.  Maybe now I could get it to work full time instead of part time.

If you have any of the little clear paint tubes, the ones used to draw paint from the bottle for mixing, they work great, and they are pretty cheap. I bought a set of mixing bottles and got 3 of those, and I still use them, of course, I don't use them for paint, but they are great for drawing the Tenax into the TNF and using them for thinners.

I found that if the touch and flow is clogged, it can be unclogged by sticking the needle end in the proweld bottle and letting it sit for a few minutes. This will probably solve the problem. As for removing it and putting proweld in the tube, you can use one of those oral medication dispensors for small children, you can find them in the HBA section at walmart.
