Yeh, I was doing the same thing. Dentists are a great source of tools.

Unfortunately, my dentist shut the door on that deal. She said it was cheaper to sharpen her old burrs that it was to buy new ones. Ratz, just when I had a good thing going....

Resharpen burs...who's she kidding...sounds like a line to me...you must have turned down something she wanted to do to you so she could afford a new car or trip to some exotic location.Mischief [:-,]

Consider they range in price from $3 to $30, resharpening them just is an excuse, the dentist I know all toss them when they begin to show signs of wear.

I did order a specific type from one of them not too long ago. I got a five pack of bits for about $30.00

Nope you must of pissed her off!

Not sure about the burrs-- but I know in the case of the regular hand instruments this is true.  My wife is a hygienist and was trying to figure out a way to get her instruments updated as hers were getting dull.  She did find someone who would sharpen them for a LOT less than new instruments would cost.  She still was able to give me two complete sets of instruments for modelling though :)

The most recent post notwithstanding.....I find it hard to get my head around being able to sharpen something as delicate as a dental burr.

Based on Geralds first posts about burrs, I have a dental tech friend saving them for me, also.....gonna try them someday.

Lastly, I would not want to be the patient in the chair when the dentist decided the burr was dull! (I hope they inspect them daily!)
