I've seen the ad in FSM. Are there any over the counter products that does what ODX does (aside from soap and water)?

I'm wondering if Goo Gone, an over the counter citrus-based cleaner, will do many of the same things. I know it's my first choice for removing Bare Metal Foil goop from a canopy I've masked. I've been put off by the price of ODX.

I have Un-du which is similar to Goo Gone but I've been apprehensive about applying it to my canopy to take off masking tape residue because it smells like something you use to remove paint.

I'm curious about ODX because I find that I have "toxic" hands. Since I handle my models a lot, I'm probably leaving impurities which should be removed before applying paint.

What type of container is your Un-du in?  If it's in a metal can, don't use it!  If you have any doubts about a product, get some old canopy (clear) sprues and try the product on that befpre you try it on the model.

As far as "toxic" hands, I handle my models w/bare hands up to the painting stage.  At that point I put on a pair of rubber surgical gloves and then wash the model in warm soapy water.  I don't touch the model w/bare hands after that until the painting and decaling have been completed.  (most drug stores seem to carry surgical gloves in small to Xtra large sizes - prices are between 8 & 12 bucks for a box of 100 pairs)
